Barcelona. Spain. International festival of contemporary art. The diffrent participating artists place themselves with sceptism towards the problematic characteristics of the city.
Gerard Cuartero-Betriu / Jordi Querait i Suau
‘dibuixa’t la ciutat’, 2007

This project proposes an analysis and a later reflection about the contemporary city, by making available to the inhabitants - the real protagonists - a discussion framework about the city.

No, Wigley. Mark Wigley, well-established Architect, Author, Dean of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, NY and passionate speaker with a dry sense of humour. He is described as foremost architectural theorists and inventor of the Deconstructivist Architecture. Mark is also co-founder of the Volume Magazine which goes beyond architecture’s definition of ‘making buildings’ and reaches out for global views on architecture and design.
Unfortunatley he is one of the creatives who doesn’t like to draw.
I let him write.

How would you describe yourself?

What is your first notion in the morning?

What would you do if you wouldn’t be an architect?

Mark Wigley’s essay of how network as a physical structure is in fact grounded by a slew of individuals who have contributed to how we understand networks today.

It seems that he loves to hear himself talking - and we have to admit that we love it too. He is easy-going, making a lot of jokes and is laughing all the time. Fabio Novembre is a designer and an architect, who says about himself that he never draws. And he said to me: ‘You are the first person who made me draw.’

Maastricht. Netherlands. If somebody says that Eindhoven is the Meltingpot of Design in the Netherlands, I would answer back that it was Maastricht’s turn this weekend.
The Great Indoors were in town. Starting with a Conference which explores the growing influence of interior design on the private and public domain and complementing it with lectures by different designers. This event offered a unique opportunity to share the visions and experience of some of the world’s most talented designers. Thanks again to Guus Beumer, director of Marres and NAI and Robert Thiemann, founder of Frame, who made The Great Indoors possible.

Robert Thiemann co-founded the FRAME Magazine. In 2005 he did the same with the MARK Magazine - Another Architecture. This weekend he was the moderator of THE GREAT INDOORS. And I liked to listen to him.

Maastricht. Netherlands. The trade show of interior design is in town. A lot to see, some common stuff to forget. Outstanding the commercial ‘I don’t have style - but I can buy it’ things.
But my Academy had the idea to have a stand where students can pimp old furniture. These are Fabian von Spreckelsen’s and my results: (spontaneously we invent a group)

Gent. Belgium. Its a yearly competition for videos of exactly 60 seconds which everybody can join. The awards were hand out on Saturday 10 November in the Concerthall Miry at 8 pm.
All nominations for the categories best of the world, inside out, portrait, visual knacks etc. were screened and the winners got their own ‘monkey’. Thanks to the two hosts - they made the audience constantly laugh with their dry sense of humour. In 2008 the Award Ceremony will take place in Beijing, China.

video. beatbox. dancing. Maybe the most distictive words for Daniel van Hauten. He is an euregio kid. Born in Germany, grown up in Belgium and living in the Netherlands. Daniel is not glorifying any filmmakers. He does what he does because he likes it. Fun is necessary. That makes his work so unreckoned.
