matylda in bruxelles

written by Matylda in lalala

so, I am doing a little stopover in bruxelles, the capital of belgium. visiting friends, enjoying various surroundings and still working for dezeen. so why not traveling as long as I can.. in fact I am here since saturday night - (I’ve spend that night in the ‘famous’ cafe central). but there was no scanner around to make my current stay official. and I still had some meetings with designers from london to post.

london: you were calling

call me crazy or scream at me because I cant stay somewhere for long. but I feel home in different places. sometimes I just think that it is just nicer somewhere else. you learn a lot while traveling and meeting people. that’s what I do. london was good - london wants me back. here I come. lalala

dutch design week: designer punk

written by Matylda in lalala

they are maybe famous or know for their furniture, their products and many other reasons: but not for making punk music. joost van bleiswijk, stephan siepermann and jos kranen are a band. but not a regular one. they never do auditions. they think that they call themself ‘4 mouthed barbarelas’ (but they are not sure yet). they perform just once a year, during the dutch design week.

2 days in dublin: irish, I guess

written by Matylda in lalala

you think that you are going for a nice trip to dublin and it ends up to be a the most expensive, cold and wet weekend of your life. don’t get me wrong, dublin is a nice city but we were not prepared for all this. and I haven’t seen anything I really liked or anything that surprised me in the capital of ireland. but we had 1 great night out and 1 day at the sea. at least we spend the last night at the airport because our flight was at 5.30 am. I always wanted to sleep at starbucks - yeah

doughnut: how I want it to be

written by Matylda in lalala

on friday afternoon I took a flight to dublin, ireland, for the weekend. it’s a short trip from london, takes maybe an hour, but I always like to use my time efficiently. this is my belief of a perfect doughnut. a symbiosis of doughnut and bagle. thank you for the painting book, krispykreme.

brighton: dolphin derby or the race on the ocean waves

written by Matylda in lalala

yesterday I spend the day in brighton. what can I say? of course, london is great, but I am girl that needs some leisure time out of town. It’s good to see something new and it’s good to breath some fresh air. so we went to brighton, an idyllic town on the coast of south england. It even has a little bit southern france charm. but at the top of the list was the recommended dolphin derby. it’s a fairground booth where you try to let a little plastic dolphin ’swim’. 18 people can take part in a game. they sit next to each other and try to get balls rolling which make the dolphin move. lucky me took 2 little dolphins home - maybe a cheap victory but the fun time that I needed.

how buisness cards can improve your visual life

written by Matylda in lalala

my new buisness cards arrived yesterday. just needed some new ones with my uk mobile number. I gave one of them to a friend and we replaced his awful van gogh print from ikea with the matandme picture which is taken by lutz caesar. now I am immortalised in a cool london apartment.

why but(t)?: butt party at bistrotheque

written by Matylda in lalala

yesterday I popped out and went to the butt magazine party at the bistrotheque, east london. butt is a highclass homosexual magazine for and about ‘poofters’. (english people told me that this is the way you call our gay friends) which is published in amsterdam. I have a big sympathy for the magazine. I like the layout, the pink paper and especially the front pages. maybe the guys are gay but they are still man. and after having a look on the invitation with the text: ‘buy your own mug and drink as much beer as you possibly can’ I knew that I have to drop over. it was busy and sweatie and I just saw 3 girls, including myself, who lost their way.

desperation combined with jammie dodgers

written by Matylda in lalala

there is a local cornershop on brick lane, london. they have cctv mugshots of shoplifters hanging at the wall. this shop owner let us know that this girl lives around the corner and since she was longing for some biscuits she never came back again.

security-camera

the text under the picture: ‘on 30 august, at 11:10 am. the lady above took a packet of biscuit (jammie dodgers) all captured on cctv. she put the biscuit in the bag and left left without paying. thieving is a crime however small it may be. please do not steal, or you will see yourself in print?’

is it worth getting banned from a shop over a biscuit?

sainsbury’s tries to be ‘fency’

written by Matylda in lalala

maybe it’s not the most exciting thing in the world (especially because it’s the first thing I am posting since I am in london) but sainsbury’s, the supermarket chain, is brighten up their exterior. this is an accessories (yeah, I know - it’s against burglars but still gross) that makes me tremble.

‘cookie’ screams mueller3000

written by Matylda in lalala

it’s 4 am right now and I am at my apartment in maastricht. cleaning my ‘office’ (I use to call it so but it’s just the half of my livingroom) I had some unlabelled cd’s and found this content: lutz caesar (he is the one who took the picture of me you can see above, in the head), sebastian mueller, ulrich bartholomös (camera boy), kolja hebenstreit (sleeping) and me enjoying a sunny morning (I guess it was april 2007, about 8am) on a rooftop in berlin (recognize the main station and the ‘reichstag’). yeah, it was a funny and eventful morning (and night)..
